Pilot Study on General Education
A faculty committee from the College of Arts and Sciences was
convened in 1993 for the purpose of designing a study to assess
the area requirements, (or general education curriculum). The committee
defined the knowledge, skills and attitudes it hoped a "generally
educated" student would possess upon graduation. These goals were
assessed through a survey asking students to self assess their
achievement of the University's general education goals, a series
of interviews in the students' second and fourth years, and the
collection by students and examination by faculty of a portfolio
of student work. View
the committee's report.
