WEAVE is a web-based, secure, information-management and reporting system for assessment purposes. Units that wish to track goals, objectives, and outcomes, measure whether or not the unit is meeting established target levels, and manage the data and reports resulting from its assessments, will find WEAVE to be user-friendly and effective. The system is also useful to officials managing units.

It is available to all academic and administrative units at the University free of charge.

Setup information for individuals

An individual can request access to WEAVE by contacting the director of the unit to which he/she desires access or IAS, iaas@virginia.edu 4-3417.

Setup information for units

The system requires the specification of a finite number of “levels” reflecting the institution’s organizational structure. The lowest level is the “program level” and this is the only level in which assessment information is stored and reported. Levels above the program level are used only for administration and are intended to reflect reporting relationships within the University, all the way up to the Office of the President. A higher level unit has access to the information of its assigned subordinate units. In order for a higher level unit to be assessed, it must have a corresponding “program entry” at the program level. Units on the same levels do not by right have access to other units’ information, although they may choose to share this information if they wish. Providing IAS with the unit's organization chart is the starting point for determining how the program will be set up in WEAVE.

To schedule an appointment to demo WEAVE, to request access to the system, or for any other questions about the sytem contact WEAVE Administrator, Jonathan Schnyer, at weave-help@virginia.edu or 4-3417.

Annual Rollover and Archiving

In August of each year, the previous academic year's assessment cycle will be "rolled over". For example the 2006-07 academic assessment cycle was archived on August 15, 2007.

All data for the previous year's assessment cycle will be preserved but only the mission statement, outcomes/objectives, and measures will be carried over to the the new assessment cycle. In the above example, the new assessment cycle is 2007-08. Both the current year's assessment cycle and the previous year will be viewable and editable when you log into WEAVEonline, so you will need to select which cycle you want to edit.

A previous year's assessment data is editable for one year after the rollover. After that, all data is archived and viewable but not editable. In other words, two years of data are viewable and editable but data older than that is only viewable. Please don't hesitate to contact the WEAVE Administrator, Jonathan Schnyer, at weave-help@virginia.edu or 4-3417 if you have questions about each year's rollover or the archiving process.
