1 In April 1995, Educational Testing Service began recentering SAT scores so that the national mean scores for verbal and math would both be very close to 500. This caused mean verbal scores at UVa to increase by approximately 70 points, but had little impact on mean math scores at UVa. Although recentered scores did not exist for classes that entered before 1996, they have been calculated and reported above so scores for the years 1995 and earlier can be compared to the recentered scores.
2 In some cases the mean recentered SAT total score does not equal the sum of the
mean verbal plus the mean math score because the verbal and math means have
been rounded to the nearest integer.
