George
Stovall, Director, earned a Bachelors degree in Math Education
from Purdue University in 1972 and a Masters in Math and Statistics
from Ball State University in 1975. He joined the UVa office
of Institutional Analysis in 1976. He guides and directs the
institutional studies functions in the office, as well as
serving as overall director of the office. His duties include
fulfilling the reporting requirements mandated by state and
federal agencies, and supporting and assisting other areas
of the University with their institutional research, assessment,
and data analysis needs.

Jonathan
Schnyer, Associate Director and University Assessment
Coordinator,
received his undergraduate degree in American Government
from
the University in 1985 and returned for his graduate work in
1989, which was in the fields of public administration
and politics. Jonathan worked for IAS as a graduate research
assistant
from
1992-94 and returned full-time in 1997. He coordinates all
assessment activities and specializes in survey research
and analysis.
Jonathan also maintains the office website. |
Ron
Pack, Systems Analyst, has served the University of Virginia
since 1976. Ron creates files and completes reports that are
used to satisfy state and federal reporting requirements.
He supplies data to satisfy requests for information from internal administrators and outside agencies. Ron developed
and continually updates and maintains a web based query system
that enables clients to retrieve admission, degree recipient,
credit hour, course, enrollment, and faculty information.

Martin
Shank, Systems Analyst, earned a BA in English Language
and Literature from the University of Virginia in 1980
and has been employed by UVa since, except for three
years spent mainly in Colorado and Florida. His main
responsibility is the yearly creation of the Data Digest,
both a book and a web site consisting of (this year)
79 tables presenting information about many aspects of
the University of Virginia. Other responsibilities include
creating reports and/or data files for internal and external
clients.

Tracey
Crehan Gerlach, Survey Administrator and Office Manager,
holds a B.A. in English from the University
of Virginia and spent nine years in New York working
for Rolling Stone Magazine, The
Frick Collection and several environmental non-profits. Since
moving to Charlottesville, she has worked
at UVa with the Miller Center of
Public Affairs and the Women's Center, and volunteers on
the board of a local river conservation
group. With IAS since 2003, her work with
the department includes administration of university
surveys,
special
assessment projects, editing and copy editing, and managing
the
office's fiscal and day-to-day operations.

Lois
Myers, Assistant Assessment Coordinator,
earned a Master’s in Public Policy from the University
of California at Berkeley after receiving a Bachelor’s
degree in Psychology from Reed College. She worked as a
health services researcher and analyst in medical school,
hospital and foundation settings in San Francisco, Philadelphia,
and New York City. Upon moving to Charlottesville, she
took a leave from paid work to devote full time to her
family. During this hiatus, she volunteered in local independent
schools, serving on the boards of Free Union Country School
and Tandem Friends School. Joining IAS in January 2006,
she works on program assessment and specializes in assisting
programs develop and implement learning outcomes assessment
plans.

Jean Lightner Norum, Systems Analyst (part-time) earned
her Ph.D. in psychology from the University in 1982. She
worked full-time in the Office of Institutional Planning
and Studies (a previous incarnation of IAS) from 1983 to
1989, when she retired into full-time motherhood. Still considering
herself a full-time mom, she returned to IAS in 1997 on a
part-time basis. Jean conducts annual surveys on tuition
and required fees nationwide and on the allocation of required
fees at Virginia public institutions. She also prepares the
University's submission for the National Study of Instructional
Costs and Productivity. As needed, she also works on academic
program review and special projects.

Sarah Schultz Robinson, Assessment Analyst, earned her M.S. in Experimental Psychology from Old Dominion University after receiving her B.S. in Biological Psychology from the College of William and Mary. Before joining IAS in May 2007, she worked as a Lecturer in Psychology teaching introductory psychology and research methods courses. She also spent two years working as a Research Associate in the Program Evaluation and Research Lab at ODU. Her current work at IAS includes managing competency assessments, acting as an assessment liaison for academic departments, and assisting with data analysis and report writing. |
Lindsay
Flynn, Graduate Research Assistant, earned her B.A.
in political science from Albion College and her M.A. in government
from the University of Virginia. She is currently pursing
a Ph.D. in political science at the University, and is interested
in welfare state development and public policy. She previously
worked as an aid in the Michigan State Senate. Lindsay began
work at IAS in 2006 and assists with various research projects,
including data analysis and report writing. |

Anne-Marie
Durocher, Graduate Research Assistant, earned her
B.Sc. from the University of Montreal and her MA from McGill
University,
both in political science. She is currently enrolled in the
PhD program in political science at the University of Virginia.
She specializes in international relations and American politics,
more specifically on questions related to security and military
cooperation among allies. She has previously worked in close
collaboration with Prof. Michael Brecher on a forthcoming
book on international crises. Anne-Marie joined IAS in
2006 and her work includes analyzing survey data, preparing
reports, and updating the website. |
