Methodology
Methodology
The study population
for this study was all SEAS undergraduate alumni. The sample included
subsamples of the classes of 2001, 1999, 1997, and 1992. A random
sample of 1,462 SEAS undergraduate alumni were surveyed.
IAS administered the survey but SEAS posted it. All respondents
were sent personalized letters, signed by Dean Richard Miksad, on
July 29, 2002 informing them of the importance and general purposes
of the survey, assuring them of confidentiality, and inviting them
to participate. The survey was conducted entirely over the web.
Two email reminders were sent between September 23 and October 23,
2002 to those individuals who had not filled out a questionnaire.
$100 gift certificates to the University bookstore were awarded
as incentives for respondents.
When the field
period ended on October 25, 2002, 538 responses had been received,
for a response rate of 37%. At a 95% confidence level, the overall
sampling error for the survey was ±3.8%.
