Undergraduate Admissions Turn Downs Surveys

This survey, conducted in summer 2006 on behalf of the Offices of Admissions, Student Financial Services, and University Relations, asked questions of those applicants to the University who turned down an offer of admission for the 2006-07 academic year. We inquired about the schools they plan to attend and their experiences with the Admissions and Financial Aid offices, and resources students use to collect information about colleges. Out of a total of 1,799 in the sample, 1218 responded, for a response rate of 68%. For the results, click here. 2005
This survey, conducted in summer 2005 on behalf of the UVa Offices of Admissions and Student Financial Services, asked questions of those applicants to UVa who turned down an offer of admission for the 2005-06 academic year. We inquired about the schools they plan to attend and their experiences with UVa's admissions and financial aid offices. All applicants who did not choose to attend UVa, including transfers, were surveyed. Out of a total of 2,847, 1,757 responded, for a response rate of 62%. For the results, click here. 2004
This survey, conducted in summer 2004 on behalf of the UVa Office of Admission, asked questions about the factors that influenced undergraduate applicants’ admission decisions and where they plan to attend. All first-time, first-year applicants (not transfers) who did not choose to attend UVa, a total of 2,556, were surveyed and 1,551 responded, for a response rate of 61%. For the results, click here.

2003
This survey, conducted in Summer 2003 on behalf of the Office of Admission, asked respondents questions about their satisfaction with the admissions process and the reasons they did not choose to attend UVa. All 307 African-American applicants who did not choose UVa were surveyed. When the field period ended in August 1, 2003, 194 applicants had responded, for a response rate of 63%.
