Scoring
and Rules For The Sportsman Golf League
Teams
There are twenty 2 man teams. Each team will be scheduled to play a
different team each week.
There are no tee times this year. Teams will be paired by having the carts
lined up at the tee box. Garry Hicks Rule: You
MUST play with the team
you are scheduled to play with if both teams are present! You may only
play with the same team once every 3
weeks. Your team is required to
play the team you are scheduled to play if they are there even if you are on the
tee box getting ready to tee off. Gimme puts (usually within
"the leather" can only be given by the opponent you are scheduled to play.
Score cards will be exchanged on the first tee and the team you are
paired with will keep your score.
Please write your team number on the card your team is keeping score for
next to “Attest Team
#.”
Averages
Averages are kept based upon the scores
from the previous 5 weeks. The average
used the first week is the season ending average from last year. If the
player has no average(new player) t he average you
will be based on the score from the first week adusted arbitrarily based on
nothing over a double bogey for an
A player and nothing over a triple bogey for a B player. The score new player shoots the first night will
be adjusted this way to obtain the average. The difference between the averages will
be determined and them multiplied by 80 % to determine how many strokes will be
given to the player with the higher average. Strokes will be awarded starting with
the hardest hole and working down to the easiest hole. Par 3 holes are excluded from this rule
and are awarded only after strokes have been awarded on all other holes.
The
averages will be used to prepare your scorecard for the following week. I will prepare your card every
week. Please turn in the card I
have prepared for you. If you have
a substitute please make sure to write in the substitutes full name and phone
#. In the past, substitutes
names have been left off the score card resulting in an incorrect average being
calculated the following week for the player absent the previous week. This situation results in incorrect
scoring and averages. Also, be sure
to write in your total score and your adjusted score. Your score should be adjusted as
follows:
If
your average is......
38
or less
No more than 2 double bogeys are allowed. The 3rd and subsequent double bogeys
become bogeys.
39
to 44
Nothing more than a double bogey is allowed.
45
to 52
No more than 2 triple bogeys are allowed. The 3rd and subsequent triple bogeys
become double bogeys.
53
or more
Nothing higher than a triple bogey is
allowed.
I will post a copy of this letter on the board for you to refer to.
Point
Scoring
Scoring is as follows: The A players play against each other
and the B players play against each other.
I will prepare your cards showing which player gets a stroke on which
hole. A point is awarded to the A
player with the lowest score on the hole after subtracting any points given on
that hole. The same applies to the
B players. The third point is
awarded to the team with the lowest total score on the hole after applying the
strokes given. There will be a
total of 3 points awarded per hole.
Ties will get you a half point.
There are a total of 27 points awarded per 9 holes. Cards may be turned in to me or to the
desk in the Pro Shop.
